700 Foreign Students Enrolment in 2015: Vice-Chancellor

Amanat20151TUESDAY, 24 FEBRUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah sets the target for foreign students enrolment to UMS at 700 for 2015.

At present, international students studying in UMS for the undergraduate and postgraduate courses stood at 617 recorded in 2014, an increase by 101 from the 516 registered in 2013. These foreign students are from 28 countries.

“We have 15 students from Timor-Leste who registered into the Diploma of Oil and Gas programme at the Faculty of Engineering, UMS.

“We also need to improve on the accommodation for international students as well as transportation, thus the need to purchase new busses ” he said today at the Vice-Chancellor’s Message or ‘Amanat’ for the year 2015.

Datuk Harun also mentioned that UMS currently had 125 international lecturers from 21 different countries. This was an indicative of the university’s resolve to create an academic body from diverse background, and would enhance UMS’ acceptability at international level.

Of late, UMS has become a destination of choice for international students seeking tertiary education. – FL
