Seminar BENCANA 2015 ini merupakan seminar ketiga dan kesinambungan daripada Seminar Bencana Alam 2013 yang kedua  dianjurkan oleh Unit Kajian Bencana Alam, Fakulti Sains dan Sumber Alam (FSSA), UMS. Penganjuran Seminar BENCANA 2015 ini adalah selari dengan keperluan untuk memahami, mengetahui dan menyelidik pelbagai aspek dan dimensi isu-isu bencana alam yang sering berlaku di Malaysia. Di Malaysia khususnya, kejadian seperti tanah runtuh, banjir, hakisan pantai dan sungai serta jerebu telah memberi kesan yang sangat signifikan kepada masyarakat terutama dalam pelbagai aspek  ekonomi, alam sekitar, kesihatan dan keselamatan. Seiring dengan perkembangan ini, Pusat Kajian Bencana Alam, FSSA akan menganjurkan siri ketiga seminar yang berkaitan dengan bencana pada tahun ini dan mengunjurkan penyertaan yang lebih luas dari segi skop pembentangan, bidang kepakaran mahupun bilangan penyertaan dari pelbagai jabatan dan institusi yang berkaitan di seluruh negara.

We are glad to invite you to take part in the International Conference on Marine Science & Aquaculture 2015 (ICOMSA), 17 - 19 March 2015 that will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. This annual event was formerly known as International Seminar on Marine Science and Aquaculture (ISOMSA).

The conference will provide a platform for scientist to present, discuss and share their research, findings and experiences which are related to its theme "CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES IN DEVELOPING BLUE ECONOMY " at international level.

We welcome your participation to attend, submit your abstracts for oral or poster presentation during the conference to share your achievements in the fields of Marine Science and Aquaculture.

BACKGROUND

This conference intended to gather science and mathematics educators, academics, and researchers to discuss and address issues in the improvement of science and mathematics education in the 21st century. The development of the young generation in their ability to think scientifically and apply science and mathematical knowledge for the benefit of humanity is the main focus of this conference. Besides that, this conference also provide more opportunities for science and mathematics teachers especially from the Borneo region who have less opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skill, due to the fact that periodically held conference of this kind is limited.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Kinki University of Japan initiated the annual seminar series in 2003. Named as "Annual Seminar on Marine Science and Aquaculture", these seminars have provided a platform to exchange knowledge about the marine ecosystem and development of aquatic food resources through sustainable fisheries and aquaculture. Starting the year of 2014, this annual event will be known as International Conference on Marine Science and Aquaculture (ICOMSA 2014).
 
Due to increasing number of participants and diverse backgrounds they come from, there is a need to bring the broader issues of global importance into the scope of discussion. This has motivated the transformation of annual seminar series into an international event. Henceforth, the conference will encompass a variety of perspectives that are rapidly shaping the research interest in marine environment and seafood resources.
 
The theme of the upcoming conference schedule in March 2014 will be "ECOSYSTEM PERSPECTIVES IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ". The conference focus on topics that are thematic or technical in nature and will be open to those having professional interest in this subject.
