kekaumas kalFRIDAY, 14 NOVEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) General Staff Union (KEKAUMAS) always ensures the welfare of its members at the university.

KEKAUMAS UMS President, Amat Jutrah Haji Musneh said this involved their members at UMS Main Campus, Labuan and Sandakan branch.

He said, various issues and problems faced by its members had been, are and will be addressed by the union including those involving career, health and education as well as their family members.

“KEKAUMAS will continue to care for the welfare of UMS staff who have become union members. Many issues and problems had been settled so far,” he added.

He was speaking after leading the Exco KEKAUMAS on a courtesy call to UMS Labuan International Campus Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murnizam Haji Halik at his office at Level 13, Tower Building, yesterday.

buayanMONDAY, 10 NOVEMBER – The Youth and Community Development Club (BELKOM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for the first time had partnered with UMS 4WD Volunteer Club in organising the Youth Expedition Programme to Crocker Range @ Kg. Buayan which ended yesterday.

According to the Director of the Youth Expedition Programme, Bishrul Hafis Md Rosly, the programme which ran for three days and two nights involved 15 students from the Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP), UMS.

“This programme aimed to expose students to the realities on the hardships of life of people living in remote areas and the reception given to the community of Kg. Buayan espeically students of SKBuayan was very encouraging,” he said.

“Themed ‘Belia Bersama Komuniti’ (Youths and the Community), various educational programmes were organised as motivation especially to the students including their parents. We will continue to be an agent in efforts to uplift society especially youths residing in the rural areas,” he said.

He thanked Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation UMS, Prof. Dr. Shahril Yusof and FPP Dean, Prof. Dr. Ismail Ibrahim for participating and always supporting their efforts in realising the community programme.

For the record, BELKOM UMS is a club under the guidance of FPP lecturer (Psychology Block), Dr. Getrude Cosmas Ah Gang @ Grace who is always positive and continue to work closely with the community to form an intelectual and productive society. – (fl)

bertemu pelanggan BPPMONDAY, 10 NOVEMBER – The Bursar Department, UMS Library and the Development and Maintenance Department (BPP) invite Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) community to their Open Day starting today.

According to a statement issued by BPP, the programme will be held for five days from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm at UMS Library.

It is intended to act as a platform for the three departments to be directly involve with students, staff and suppliers to ensure customer needs are identified and understood in accordance with the requirement of ISO 9001: 2008 Clause 8.2.1.

The statement also said the programme was an effort to solve the problems arising from misunderstanding of their services provided and to provide information and exposure on services provided by BPP such as Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and the regulations adopted by UMS.

The ceremony will be officiated by UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah. – SS (fl)

jwtn tetapsFRIDAY, 07th NOVEMBER UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah reminded students and staff of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) not to get involved in any militant’s activities or movements, including the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
 
He said that the ISIS Group actions are extreme and does not reflect the true Islamic culture.
 
“Involvement in this militant activity is not only a drawback to the people that involved but also the nation.  Extremisms are not the teaching of Islam.”
 
“UMS will not compromise on any students involved in any militant’s activity. However, so far UMS haven’t received any reports on the students nor staffs involvements in the activity,” he said to the media during the ‘Majlis Penyerahan Surat Tawaran Jawatan Tetap Bagi Kakitangan Bukan Akademik’ ceremony held at ‘Galeri Majlis’.
 
He also mentions that Sabah is lucky because the harmonious practises, living with diverse culture and traditions, have been instilled since a long time ago. The practise can be felt and experience even until today. -MA(JA)-

kelas iqraFRIDAY, 07TH NOVEMBER –Universiti Malaysia Sabah Mosque and Islamic Affairs Unit (UHEIM) are now opening classes for al-Quran and Iqra’ classes and half day tuition during the end of 2014 school holidays.

According to the statement from UHEIM, it is open especially for Universiti Malaysia Sabah staffs and the nearby community in Kota Kinabalu.

The programme will begin from 24th November until 19 December 2014 at the UMS Mosque.

The statement also mention that the classes for al-Quran and Iqra’ will be conduct on Monday until Friday, 8.30 am until 1.00 pm while the tuition classes start from 2.00 until 5.00 pm.
