PwrPoint 1TUESDAY, 17 FEBRUARY – The Information and Communication Technology Department (JTMK), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recently conducted a workshop on the use of Microsoft PowerPoint to 30 school students aged 8 to 15 years old, at the community hall of Kg. Brunei, Membakut.

The half-day workshop was part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Al-Haqq zone in conjunction with Maulidur Rasul, UMS level this year.

The speaker, Abdul Latif Matali said, this workshop aimed to expose school students to the importance of using Microsoft PowerPoint.

“Most of the students who attended the workshop had a good basic knowledge on the use of computer and some were quite adept especially the secondary school students.

“Besides PowerPoint, we also taught them the skill to surf the internet to get materials from outside sources that could help them get additional information,” said Latif, who is also an Information Technology Officer at JTMK.

In addition to the workshop, Al-Haqq zone which comprised Chancellery Department, Bursar Department and Registrar Department also held a gotong-royong to clean the cemeteries and mosques at Kg. Brunei, Membakut. – CD (fl)

csr libraryMONDAY, 16 FEBRUARY – Nearly 200 staff of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) under the An-Nashir group held a Charity Project at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Timbang, Kota Belud, recently.

According to UMS Deputy Head Librarian cum Chairman of the Programme, Haji Zawawi Hj Tiyunin, the charity project was held in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul 1436H/2015M UMS level, thus fostering the spirit of living together in a community regardless of race, religion and ideology.

“UMS would like to thank the management and staff of SK Timbang for willingly accepting us and giving and encouraging response even though on weekends,” he said when met by media at the programme.

An-Nashir comprised Student Affairs Department, UMS Library, Development and Maintenance Department, Centre for Postgraduate Studies, Curriculum and Student Development Centre, Alumni Centre, Health Centre, Reserve Officers Training Unit and Police Volunteers of UMS.

Meanwhile, the headmaster of SK Timbang, Zenian Ikol expressed his gratitude with the long-awaited charity project, more so after the school was affected by the recent floods.

“Thank you to An-Nashir group, UMS for choosing our school to conduct their Charity Project, not only doing repairs to the school but also the boarding schools, resource centre and laboratories, the school also received a heartfelt contribution,” he said.

The An-Nashir group donated school supplies such as cupboards, bookcases, sports equipment and reading materials at the programme.

Also present at the charity project was the Dean of the Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Datin Dr. Mariam Abd. Latip and the Director of UMS Alumni Centre, Mohd. Raffie Hj. Janau. – SM (fl)

ERDEC1MONDAY, 16 FEBRUARY – The Entrepreneurship Research & Development Centre (ERDEC) will be organising a Training of Trainer (TOT) Entrepreneurship Workshop from 25-27 February 2015 at the Court Yard Hotel, 1Borneo starting from 8.30 am until 5.00 pm.

This workshop is open to staff of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) who are interested.

According to a statement issued by ERDEC, the workshop will cover Idea Generation & Opportunity Recognition, Business Model, Basic Financial Accounting and Cash Flow Management.

nc staff jppMONDAY, 16 FEBRUARY – The visit by Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah for the first time in 2015 to the Development and Maintenance Department (JPP) UMS delighted the staff of the department.

The presence of the Vice-Chancellor to JPP was not just for that day only but had been doing so unofficially for other unofficial matters.

Dr. Mohd Harun’s visit to JPP was to socialise, exchange ideas and to know directly any grievances by JPP staff.

In his speech, Mohd Harun invited all JPP staff to work with sincerity, integrity and mutual cooperation with one another.

He said all staff should consider themselves as a family, to cultivate a sense of devotion to their workplace for their future.

At the visit, the Director of JPP, Kamisah Husin also gave a briefing on the development of the department’s staff to the Vice-Chancellor of UMS. – SS (fl)

NC Lawat BendahariFRIDAY, 13 FEBRUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah recently paid a visit to the Bursar Department during his meeting session with officials of the department.

At the meeting held at the Meeting Room of the Bursar Department, Datuk Dr. Harun urged the department to assist the university in planning for its income generation and investment.

He also advised the Bursar Department to emulate some Private Higher Education Institutions (IPTS) that seemed to be able to adopt austerity measures and generating income thus contributing profitable returns for the university.

At the meeting, Acting Bursar, Zallifah Shadan also explained to Datuk Dr. Harun on the management, function and operations of the department.

Her briefing also included the latest efforts made by the Bursar Department which was the development of the i-OT system and i-Utility, in supporting the EcoCampus concept.

Last year, the Bursar Department emerged champion at the Creative and Innovative Convention UMS level through its i-Claim after successfully developing i-Assets system which was first adopted in May 2014. – ZMD (fl)
