Workshop on Progress in Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Technology (PWTRT-2013)

The “Workshop on Progress in Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Technology (PWTRT-2013) is organized with a key view to document the contribution and impact of research, development and innovations of the wastewater treatment industry.

 


PWTRT-2013 aims to promote meaningful interaction, the exchange of ideas and experiences between academia, policy makers and industry players through the following channels:
  1. By presenting and discussing their research and development work related to both fundamental and applications in a wide range of interdisciplinary fields which include biological, physicochemical and membrane technology; and
  2. Through the delivery of relevant papers and speeches on key issues highlighted by representatives from the academia, policy makers, and wastewater treatment companies, a common platform can be established as a focal point to review and discuss strategies and explore the potential ways to expedite the development of wastewater treatment industry in Malaysia.

The workshop will include a technical program consisting of invited lecture on current wastewater treatment topics. Through this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to exchange new ideas and experiences, as well as to establish research and business networking with global wastewater treatment partners for future collaboration.

Background
The Borneo Research Council (BRC) was established in 1968 as an incorporated non-profit organization for the advancement of knowledge in the social, biological and medical sciences with regard to Borneo (Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei, and Kalimantan).  The Council consists of an international group of scholars engaged in research in Borneo.  It holds biennial international conferences at which the latest research in al academic fields connected with Borneo is presented and discussed.

Since 1990, these biennial international conferences have been held at various universities and institutions located on the island of Borneo.  In 1992, Sabah hosted the Second BRC Biennial International Conference, which was jointly organized by the Centre for Borneo Studies (Sabah Foundation) and the Department of Sabah Museum, and in 2002 and 2088 Universiti Malaysia Sabah organized the Seventh and Ninth Conferences respectively.  Following the latest 2012 Conference, held at Universiti Brunei Darussalam, the Kadazandusun Chair together with the School of Social Sciences at UMS was again selected to organize the 2014 conference. 

The year 2014 will mark the 20th anniversary of Universiti Malaysia Sabah.  This Conference will be one of the important university events for 2014, that will draw many international participants and presenters.
 
Objectives
The Objectives of the Conference are as follows:

1.    To promote scientific research in the social, biological and medical sciences in Borneo;
2.    To enable the research community, interested Borneo government departments, and others to keep abreast of ongoing research and its results;
3.    To serve as a vehicle for drawing attention to urgent research and its results;
4.    To coordinate the flow of information on Borneo research arising from many diverse sources;
5.    To disseminate rapidly the initial results of research activity;
6.    To inform the interested public about research in Borneo.
