About Us
The BIMP-EAGA (Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East-ASEAN Growth Area) Unit for Tourism Development or BE-UTD was established on 12th March 2011. The research unit was developed by a group of long-standing academics that has been working on the issue of tourism in this region since the establishment of UMS.
Our Vision
BE-UTD vision is to play a leading role in the development of sustainable tourism within the BIMP-EAGA through the promotion and implementation of research-based outcomes.
Our Objectives
There are six objectives that would support BE-UTD's vision, which are:
- To reinforce and support all priority BIMP-EAGA clusters in the development of sustainable tourism.
- To create and maintain a tourism research database, which can be accessed by members of participating countries.
- To provide knowledge, insights and tools that are relevant, timely and accessible, to underpin sustainable tourism in the BIMP-EAGA.
- To enhance and strengthen interactions among academia in the development of tourism in the BIMP-EAGA through joint tourism research activities.
- To identify practical, cost effective and readily adaptable solutions that will aid in joint tourism development.
- To monitor tourism development in the EAGA by initating technical assistance in tourism and hospitality related audits.
