EcoCampus Benchmarking
UMS' definition of ecocampus stated that it is a point of reference that contribute towards sustainibility by introducing important aspects. To be established as a point of reference, the EcoCampus Management Centre carries out benchmarking exercises. These exercises are carried out using two (2) different instruments namely the;
1) UI GreenMetric World University Ranking Scheme, and
2) the THE Impact Ranking Scheme.
UMS started utilising the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking Scheme since 2014, while the THE Impact Ranking Scheme is utilised starting 2022. These instruments are utilised due to their unique focuses.

The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is an initiative of Universitas Indonesia launched in 2010 as a strategy to develop a uniform system based on a numerical score that addressed the problems of sustainability and environmental impact by an institution of higher education. This is achieved through six (6) different categories.
In 2021, UMS achieved the highest rank for the Setting and Infrastructure category, while maintaining its rank at 67 on top of the ever increasing number of ranking participation.
