COLLECTIONS AND RESEARCH
The BORNEENSIS Collection is an important natural history collection for the state of Sabah, and the only one in the state that is within a public university. The BORNEENSIS was Collection was officially established since the time of the ITBC’s founding in June 1996 and includes more than 150,000 specimens in the BORNEENSIS Zoological Collection (BOR) and the BORNEENSIS herbarium (BORH)
The BORNEENSIS Zoological Collection (BOR) holds material for vertebrates and invertebrates that are stored in three Collection Rooms: Insect Collection, Wet Collection, Dry Collection.
The BORNEENSIS Herbarium (BORH) is registered in the Index Herbariorium and globally recognised.Insect Collection

Deposit or Donation of Specimens
If you would like to deposit or donate legally-acquired zoological or botanical specimens in BOR or BORH for future research, please refer to our Acquisition and Accession Policy and fill in the Specimen Deposition Form to borneensis@ums.edu.my to arrange for the specimens to be deposited with us.
Access and Use of the Collection
One of the key objectives of the BORNEENSIS Collection is to provide reference material for specimen-based research and education. To fulfil this objective, the ITBC shall provide access to and facilitate the use of the Collection by relevant users including, but not limited to, internal staff and students, external researchers, and government agencies. If you would like to gain access to and use material in the BORNEENSIS Collection, please refer to our Access and Use Policy and email the completed Request Form to borneensis@ums.edu.my.
