WEDNESDAY, 11 NOVEMBER – Tahammas Group of the Bursar Department, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) created history once again when they were named the recipient for the Gold Award when representing Sabah and Sarawak Regional Zone at the National Excellence Team Convention held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre (SPCC), recently.

Tahammas group who competed in the Creative and Innovative Group Category (KIK) presented a project entitled ‘Inaccurate High Mileage Claims for Within and Outside of the country’.

At the convention, a total of 218 groups competed in the Team Excellence competition in certain categories such as public sector, service sector, QE/5S sector, manufacturing sector as well as electrical and electronics sector.

According to the Leader of the group, Suzie Mohamed, before being selected to represent at the national level, the group also won the Gold Award at the Sabah and the Sabah and Sarawak Regional Team Excellence Convention  in April and August respectively.

Meanwhile, Acting Bursar of UMS, Zallifah Shadan who attended the convention said the management of UMS was very proud of Tahammas who represented the Sabah and Sarawak zone and brought honour to UMS at the national arena.

“I hope the success of Tahammas would inspire many other Team Excellence groups in the Bursar Department to come up with new ideas and innovation,” she said.

The prize and certificate was presented by the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Datuk Lee Chee Leong. (fl)

MONDAY, 9 NOVEMBER – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaysia Sabah  (UMS), Tun Zaki Tun Azmi received his Honorary Doctorate in Shari’a and Justice from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in conjunction with the 13th Convocation of the university that ended last night.

The scroll was presented by Tunku Ampuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Aishah Rohani Tengku Besar Mahmud as the Tuanku Chancellor of USIM.

Located at Dewan Tuanku Canselor USIM, Nilai also receiving an honorary degree along with Tun Zaki was Tan Sri Dr. Mohd. Jusoh Md Nor who was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Education.

Both were celebrated along with 333 graduates of USIM who received their degrees on the first day of the convocation.

Also present were Tengku Besar Seri Menanti, Tunku Ali Redhauddin Tuanku Muhriz who is also the Pro-Chancellor of USIM.  – (fl)

FRIDAY, 06 NOVEMBER – The Student Welfare Committee (JAKMAS) of Sri Angkasa Residential College (KKSA) recently organised a Welfare and Safety Enhancement Programme of Residential Colleges through visits to several public universities in Peninsular Malaysia.

A statement by the residential college said, the programme was aimed at gaining experience and improve their skills in administering and managing students at college level in JAKMAS scope.

It was also an effort to strengthen ties with the university visited besides acting as a sharing field in discussing issues which focused on the welfare and safety at the level of each residential college.

The five-day programme was attended by eight students accompanied by the Deputy Head of KKSA, Masnaneh Masdin and Head Fellow of KKSA, Massalinri Md Tahir who acted as the coordinator and overseer of the event.

Among the universities visited were Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and Universiti Sains Malaysia. – SS (fl)

FRIDAY, 06 NOVEMBER – The Students of Educational Psychology and Sports Association (PERMAPPS) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recently visited Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lasau Podi, Kota Belud through their programme, ‘A Step to Success’.

Programme Director, Siti Haryani Jasni said, the activity was aimed at disseminating education to rural communities as an effort to expand students’ interest through group training techniques and activities related to science, mathematics and English language.

“At the same time, it also train students to have hands-on experience in this community-based programme thereby strengthening their personal skills besides adding knowledge to their experience,”  she said when contacted by media.

Haryani said, the efforts undertaken by PERMAPPS were meaningful especially when this was the first such event organised by UMS at the said school.

The three-day programme was participated by all students of SK Lasau and was conducted by 26 PERMAPPS members.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Principal of the school, Selip Magaling. – SS (fl)

THURSDAY, 05 NOVEMBER – Residential College Tun Mustapha (KKTM) recently held a Handing Over of Student Welfare Committee (JAKMAS) 2015/2016 Session Ceremony.

The ceremony which began at 7.30 pm was attended by almost 500 students including KKTM Head, Dr. Mohamad Nizam Nazarudin.

JAKMAS members also made a pledge to the college to implement more programmes that would hone the skills of KKTM students.

Adopting the motto ‘Knowledgeable Students, United Leaders’, they also promised to continue the legacy of JAKMAS in achieving the JAKMAS Award for the fifth time.

Meanwhile, President of JAKMAS KKTM, Muhammad Asraf Abu Bakar said, the responsibility was a challenge but would work hard in tandem with the college’s management in producing KKTM students who succeed academically and in personal skills.
