Bengkel Asas FotografiTUESDAY, 24th MARCH – Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) Student Consumer Movement (GPS) Club recently held a two-day 2015 Photography Workshop.

The workshop was also join-organised by Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) Labuan branch and was conducted by Mohd Hatta Yunus, a Computer Technician from Faculty of International Finance Labuan (FKAL).

A total of 20 photographer enthusiasts including students, government and private sector staffs attended the workshop held at the Main Lecture Hall and E-Commerce Application Research and Development Lab, UMSKAL.

The Officiating ceremony was perfected by Student Affairs Department Assistant Registrar, Mohd Fadzli Sarudi, representing UMSKAL Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murnizam Haji Halik.

Also present were representative from Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) Labuan branch, Salina Matalip, and the Programme Director, Muhammad Azreen Adnan, UMSKAL Student Consumer Movement Club’s Multimedia and Publicity Exco.



During the workshop, participants were exposed with skills on using Digital Single-Lens Reflect (DSLR) camera, the three basic components: ISO, Shutter speed and Aperture, and also taking photos and photo editing using ‘Adobe Lightroom’ software during the practical session.-ZMD (JA)

Asyraaf FongTUESDAY, 24th MARCH – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Sports Centre Director, Mohd Asyraaf Fong Abdullah was appointed as Malaysian Women Football Head Coach in the upcoming ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Football Tournament 2015.

According to a statement, he will be reporting for duty this 7th-28th April before going to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam with the national team for the tournament on 1st until 10th of May.

“Thank you Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) for believing in me to guide the national team,” he said.

Asyraaf also expressed his grateful to UMS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah, and the university administrative management for supporting him to contribute his service to the country.

“The faith given to me, to lead the squad, is an honour for Sabah and the university,” he added.

Even though the time is short, he is positive planning strategies for the national team after friendly match games with Bangkok Thonburi University and Thailand national team in mid-April. -ZMD (JA)

latihan polisMONDAY, 23rd MARCH – Basic Auxiliary Police Training Series 1/2015 are able to form a high self-discipline level among officers in Security Division, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
 
UMS Acting Registrar, No’man Haji Ahmad said it is important for uniform forces like our security officers to practise self-discipline in their daily task.
 
“This course aims to upgrade the security level in our campus, and also helps to form their personality through team spirit practised during their training period.”
 
“Thus, will help in producing better quality work in the future,” he added.
 
He was quoted during ‘Majlis Doa Selamat Anggota’, prayer to ask for blessings, to mark their Basic Auxiliary Police Series 1/2015 Training held in SUKSIS Building, UMS this morning.
 
He also prays for every security officers’ safety, and perseverance in their upcoming challenges and tests ahead.
 
Met by the media representative, one of UMS security officers, Rostam Marinsan said he was grateful and excited to be among the first chosen officers that will attend and completed the training.
 
“During our absence, we hope that both UMS communities and our family will always be safe and protected from any calamity,” he said.
 
During the ceremony, No’man took the salute from officers involved as a symbol of discharge of duty for them to attend the training. Present during the ceremony were Head of Security Divison, Lt. Colonel Abdul Talib Arifin and Director of Islamic Centre, Dr. Muhamad Suhaimi Taat.

Polis bantuan latihanMONDAY, 23rd MARCH – A total of 34 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Security Division officers will undergo their Basic Auxiliary Police Training Series 1/2015 beginning this Wednesday.
 
A Security Officer, Massalinri Mohd Tahir, said that this is part of the requirement needed for their staffs to be recognized as Auxiliary Police.
 
“Involved officers will be trained at Kepayan Police Training Centre (PULAPOL) for 63 days,” he said when met by media.
 
He also added that they are obligated to stay in PULAPOL during training.
 
“This is the first batch that will we trained since UMS Security Division was approved by Royal Malaysian Police (RMP) to be absorbed as Auxiliary Police on 24th last December,” he explained.
 
Every personnel in the Security Division will go for their training by series, until all of their staffs fulfil the criteria needed.
 
This morning a ‘Majlis Doa Selamat Anggota’, prayer for officers, was held for those who are involved in the 1st training series.

ICN UMSKALMONDAY, 23rd MARCH – A total of 50 Indian Cultural Nite (ICN) Universiti Malaysia Sabah Labuan International Campus (UMSKAL) committee members recently held a Community Service programme at Mutiara Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PDK), Kg. Ganggarak.

The programme was held in conjunction with 2015 Indian Cultural Nite to show ICN was not just a cultural and arts programme but it was also a humanity and welfare programme to those who needed, in the Federal Territory of Labuan areas.

The programme was also function as a bridge to UMSKAL and local communities.

Also present during the programme were UMSKAL Student Affairs Department Assistant Registrar, Mohd Fadzli Sarudi, and ICN 2015 Programme Director, Thinakaran Suppiah.

Mohd Fadzli, who is also Indian Cultural Nite 2015 Coordinator, expressed his thanks to PDK Mutiara for welcoming ICN Committee Members. The members, who are all UMSKAL students, learn PDK Mutiara services and functions in providing assistance and supports to those who are less fortunate.

Mohd Fadzli was representing UMSKAL Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murnizam Haji Halik, said that the university is prepared to assist PDK Mutiara in charity works involving UMSKAL students and staffs in the future.

The visit was one of ICN 2015 programmes celebrated by multiracial students in UMSKAL. –SS
