MONDAY, 14 APRIL – Some of the proceeds from the sales of the tickets to the ‘Fiesta Cahaya’ 2014 or Festival of Lights will be distributed to charity homes around Kota Kinabalu.

This was mentioned by the project, Kuhan Raj who told Media Chancellery in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) today.

He said about 4,000 targeted visitors were expected to attend the fiesta on 26 April 2014.

“This event will bring together undergraduates from colleges, universities and the public and private institutions in Sabah with tickets priced as low as RM6.00 for students and RM10.00 for the public,” he added.

This annual event organised by the Art, Culture and Indian Heritage Secretariat of the Arts and Culture Department, Student Representatives Council (MPP) among others was aimed at disseminating culture and tradition of the Indians to the local community, particularly in Sabah.

Located at Dewan Canselor (Chancellor Hall) UMS, the programme is expected to be officiated by the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

This 11^th edition of Fiesta Cahaya will feature various Indian dances, including from the ethnics of Tamil, Hindustani, Telegu, Kadhakali, Malayalam and Rajasthani. – ZMD (fl)
