THURSDAY, 27 MARCH – The 2 April 2014 will be an historic date when Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) confers its highest recognition to the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão.The Commemorative Convocation Ceremony will be held at the Dewan Canselor (Chancellor Hall), UMS and the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in International Relations awarded to the premier leader of the republic will be presented by the Head of State Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr.) Haji Juhar Datuk Hj. Mahiruddin who is also the Chancellor of UMS.
Also expected to attend are the Chief Minister of Sabah who is also the Pro-Chancellor of UMS, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Hj. Aman and 38 members of the delegation from the republic.
In conjunction with the ceremony, a number of events have been scheduled which includes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UMS and the National University of Timor-Leste on the 31 March besides another MoU with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the republic after the convocation ceremony.
Gusmao is also expected to attend a luncheon with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak and wife, Datin Rosmah Mansor at Seri Perdana, Putrajaya. – CD (fl)
