Share Knowledge, PPIB UMS Assume Responsibility

PPIB LohanMONDAY, 15 SEPTEMBER – The role of universities today is not only seen as an institution that offers education to students but now involves with community and to bring knowledge to the grass roots level both in the urban and rural areas.

Recently, the Centre for the Promotion of Knowledge and Language (PPIB) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) organised a Collaboration Programme between PPIB UMS and Kampung Lohan community and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SMK) Lohan, Ranau.

The two-day programme chose Lohan community as their target group to share knowledge on various languages offered by UMS to its students.

Among the languages shared were English, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic, Tamil, French and Spanish.

According to the Chairman of the Programme, Dr. Mohd. Nor Azan Abdullah, the programme among others was to provide an opportunity to parents of Kampung Lohan to know UMS more closely.

“In addition, lectures on independence was also conducted in this programme aimed at instilling the spirit of patriotism among the community as we welcome Malaysia Day,” he added.

PPIB UMS also held a community activity by building a retaining wall with the local community at Lohan Religious Primary School. - ZMD (fl)
