Role of the Centre for International Affairs (CfIA)

To achieve the key area of priories of the Ministry of Education (previously known as Ministry of Higher Education) and its contribution to the UMS Strategic Plan 2013-2017, the CfIA takes ownership in ensuring KRA 3 objectives and fulfilled. The CfIA serves as the main coordinating office for UMS for in its internationalization activities. The CfIA is obliged to ensure that all international activities serve not only the university’s interests but also the state and national interest.

The CfIA is assigned as the dedicated coordination office which will assist students and staff in eliminating as much as possible, uncertainties in order to make informed decisions regarding new and existing practices. The CfIA will provide insight into the perspectives of international stakeholders and the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to be implemented. This includes procedural requirements for achieving international recognition which needs to be documented.


The Objectives of the CfIA:-

ü  To intensify staff and student mobility;

ü  To increase international staff recruitment;

ü  To increase international student enrollment;

ü  To enhance partnerships and collaborations internationally;

ü  To enhance the university’s achievements and success at international levels.


To improve this scenario, the following will be in place:-

ü  CfIA will be visiting and briefing schools and institutes to familiarize staff on individualized roles within the international Policy;

ü  CfIA will coordinate all international activities (inbound and outbound);

ü  CfIA will seek for opportunities to set up regional offices in key markets for the Recruitment of quality students, university/industry engagement and influence building activities;

ü  CfIA will monitored membership to relevant academic and industry networks to enhance teaching and learning skills and joint research collaboration;

ü  CfIA will be involved in linking opportunities for collaboration across all institutes and research/academic units;

ü  CfIA will coordinate all international letter of Intent (LOIs), Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) and Memorandum of Agreement (MOAs);

ü  CfIA will monitor all international collaborations to ensure the involvement of at Least three departments, schools, institutes and/or units (JFPIU) including the anchor after signing;

ü  CfIA will monitor the increase in the diversity of academic/administrative staff and students;

ü  CfIA will coordinate the in-house English foundation course to ensure standards are comparable to IEALTS/TOEFL;

ü  CfIA will actively seek collaboration for delivery of UMS programmes (in-country / off-shore) in key markets either at programme or school level;

ü  CfIA will coordinate study abroad programmes offered in partner universities with transferable credits.
