Academic Services is a division that serves as an integral part of the university and is responsible for managing the recruitment, admission, registration, information records, examinations, student graduation and convocation, and all matters related to the services and activities of the university's academic affairs.

Academic Services Division is also the Secretariat for Senate Meeting and the Undergraduate Committee Meeting

Admission requirement to Universiti Malaysia Sabah is subjected to the ‘Peraturan Pengajian Prasiswazah UMS'. Students are chosen from these channels:

1. Main Channel

Applicants must:

• Pass ‘Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia’ (STPM), or
  • Pass ‘Sijil Matrikulasi Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia’ (STPM), or
    • Pass Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM), or

• Pass Diploma/Certificate on relevant Higher Education Institutions fields,  and Taking Malaysian University English Test (MUET)

1. Entrance application to UMS for every year intake is through online application managed by Student Admission Management Division, Department of Higher Education Malaysia.
2. Applicants can surf the  website to obtained complete information on the programme general and specific requirement and submit the application through online after the advertisement was published on the local main newspaper.

STPM/equivalent Minimum Requirement
University General Requirement :

• Pass ‘Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia’ (SPM)/equivalent and distinction Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia or July Paper Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia; and
• Pass ‘Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia’ (STPM)/equivalent with at least CGPA 2.00 and at least:

• Grade C (GPA 2.00) in Pengajian Am, and
• Grade C in two other subjects, and At least Band 1 Malaysia English University Test (MUET)

STPM/EQUIVALENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
University general requirements :

• Pass ‘Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia’ (SPM)/equivalent and distinction Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia or July Paper Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia; and
• Pass ‘Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia’ (STPM)/equivalent with at least CGPA 2.00 and at least:

• Grade C (GPA 2.00) in Pengajian Am, and
• Grade C in two other subjects, and at least Band 1 Malaysia English University Test (MUET).

MATRICULATION MoE / UM SCIENCE FOUNDATION / UiTM SCIENCE FOUNDATION MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
University general requirements :

• Pass ‘Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia’ (SPM) / equivalent and distinction Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia or July Paper Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia; and
• Pass Matriculation MoE / UM Science Foundation / UiTM Science Foundation with at least CGPA 2.00;and at least Band 1 Malaysia English University Test (MUET)

STAM/EQUIVALENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
University general requirements :

• Pass ‘Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia’ (SPM) / equivalent and distinction Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia or July Paper Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia; and
• Pass with at least Jayyid in STAM; and at least Band 1 Malaysia English University Test (MUET)

DIPLOMA/EQUIVALENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENT
University general requirements :

• Pass ‘Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia’ (SPM) / equivalent and distinction Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia or July Paper Bahasa Melayu / Bahasa Malaysia; and a Diploma /equivalent recognize by the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate; or
• Pass ‘Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia’ (STPM)/equivalent with at least CGPA 2.00 and Grade C (GPA 2.00) in three other subjects including Pengajian Am; or
• Pass Matriculation MoE at least CGPA 2.00; or
• Pass with at least Jayyid in STAM; and at least Band 1 Malaysia English University Test (MUET); and send these certified true copy documents to the university:

1. Online application copy of the application;
2. Copy of applicant’s identity card/MyCard;
3. Copy of applicant’s and parent’s birth certificate/certificate of oath (if lost);
4. Copy of school completion letter;

Employer’s declaration (if applicable);

1. Copy of STPM certificate/equilavent;
2. Copy of full academic transcript (1^stsemester – final);
3. Copy of Diploma/certificate (if applicable);
4. Copy of MUET certificate;
5. Copy of Letter of Completion of Studies;
6. Copy of July Bahasa Melayu / Mathematics (if applicable)
