To be build at one of the most beautiful locations in UMS campus overlooking the South China Sea, construction of the gallery would be funded the Azman Hashim Foundation with a total funding of RM15 million.
A ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Azman Hashim UMS Gallery was officiated by the Executive Chairman of AMCORP Group and Chairman of AmBank Group, Tan Sri Azman Hashim and was witnessed by UMS Chairman of the Board of UMS, Tun Zaki Tun Azmi and the Vice-Chancellor of UMS, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah.
The Azman Hashim UMS Gallery to be built facing Likas Bay would have a panoramic view of Kota Kinabalu City, surrounded by lush greeneries atop a hill.
The proposed construction of the gallery included a circular structure characterised by an open and closed exhibition hall with corridor. Seminar Rooms and conservatory area are located on the upper floor whilst utilities would be at the lower floor.
The deck at the uppermost floor of the gallery enables visitors to view the sights, which will also be one of the attractions of the gallery. Construction of the building is scheduled to begin in mid-2016 and expected to be completed in 2018. – MA (fl)
