STEM II FPP Successfully Held at SMK Kemabong

STEM II FPPTHURSDAY, 28 MAY – The Faculty of Psychology and Education (FPP) Universiti Malaysia Sabah once again organised a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Community Programme (STEM) II recently at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kemabong, Tenom.

According to the programme supervisor, Dr. Siew Nyet Moi @ Sopiah Abdullah, it was a follow-up to STEM I held at SMK Badin, Tuaran early May.

“This programme managed by Group 2 Students of Master of Education Postgraduate Programme provides opportunities for rural students to identify more closely and strengthen understanding of STEM,” she told UMS media in a statement.

She said the main focus of the activities carried out were to encourage the multiplying of students’ creativity and problem solving skills at the same time build confidence and to choose STEM as a career.

She was speaking to 21 students under the Master of Education (Science), nine Frist Year undergraduates under Science and 37 Forms 4 and 5 students under Pure Science were also involved in the programme.

“Postgraduate Students under the Education (Science) programme act as facilitator, while the undergrads were observers and facilitators for three STEM activities carried out.

“Overall STEM II programme achieved its objective on the basis from feedback among the majority of participants who expressed that the activities done were exciting, helped them to understand the concept of science more easily, and helped them to apply concepts learned to their daily lives,” she added.

The programme was also attended by the Senior Assistant of Form 6 SMK Kemabong, Ng Sui Kiang @ Aylwin. – SS (fl)
