Pelawat Muzium PerubatanMONDAY, 12 JANUARY – The Medical Museum under the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKSK) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) recorded a total of 2,105 visitors in 2014.

According to the Medical Museum Curator, Faranizah Taufick, of this number, a total of 1,704 are school students, 180 UMS staff/students and 221 public.

“This shows a significant improvement compared to 1,000 visitors in 2013. The increase was contributed by the uniqueness and specialty at the museum which provides an opportunity for students and the local community to see the exhibition of human anatomy,” she told media.

She said the human anatomy exhibition on display at the museum included Mannequin exhibits, Jar Specimen and Plastinated Specimen.

The Medical Museum is open every day except Monday and Public Holidays starting at 9.30 am until 4.30 pm with an entrance fee charged at RM3 for visitors aged 18 years and above, RM2 for visitors aged 17 and below and free for UMS staff and students. – ZMD (fl)

Hep Perhimpunan 2015FRIDAY, 09 JANUARY – Student Affairs Department (HEP) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) held its first assembly for 2015 last Wednesday.

At the assembly, head of HEP, Darwis Awang gave a speech to all staff present.

According to him, the assembly among others aimed to bring together all staff in the organisation to instill harmony thus reinforcing existing ties.

He also urged all HEP staff to continue giving high commitment and team work towards the university’s excellence.

He said, it was in line with HEP’s responsibility to build students’ personality towards producing first class human capital.

At the ceremony, Darwis also presented a token of appreciation to former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni (HEPA), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md Kasim Mansur.

ams banjir kalFRIDAY, 09 JANUARY – Various parties continued to send donations and assistance to the flood victims at the collection centre organised by UMS Labuan.

Recently, AMS Trust presented donations in the form of rice, clothing, dry food, drinks and baby diaper packs to the programme organised by UMS Care in Helping Flood Victims 2015 at UMSKAL.

All donations were handed to the Managing Director of AMS Trust, Rita Mohd. Sharif.

Meanwhile, Senior Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Labuan International Finance (FKAL), Norhanizah Adnan thanked AMS Trust for their contributions.

She represented the Dean of FKAL, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syed Nasirin who is the Chairman of the UMS Cares Programme in accepting the contributions at the collection centre at Sri Menanti Room, UMS Labuan International Campus. – SS (fl)

14 naik pangkatKHAMIS, 08 JANUARY – A total of 14 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) staff received their Promotion Letter in a simple ceremony at Café D’Sireh, Chancellery Building UMS, today.

The 14 comprised six staff who were promoted to Senior Lecturer DS52, four Head Deputy Registrar N54, three Senior Deputy Registrar N52 and one post for the Deputy Senior Head Librarian S52.

Dr. Dg. Norizah Ag Kiflee @ Dzulkifli topped the list of recipients for the Senior Lecturer post, followed by Lai Che Ching @ Abdul Latif, Joki Perdani Sawai, Shirley @ Marylinda Bakansing, Sidah Idris dan Haslinda Hassan.

For the Head Deputy Registrar, the recipients were Vina Zahriani Yusof @ Vina Joseph, Darwis Manainus Awang Kangit, Mohd Raffie Hj. Janau and Luqman Ridha Anwar.

As for the promotion to Senior Deputy Registrar, the posts were offered to Haji Firdaus Abdullah, Aidah Noordin and Zamri Mohammad Tuah.

Meanwhile, Anna Michael was the sole recipient for the post of Deputy Senior Librarian.

The promotion letters were presented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah witnessed by Acting Registrar of UMS, No’man Hj. Ahmad. – SS (fl)

masjid umsWEDNESDAY, 07 JANUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Mosque and Islamic Affairs Unit (UHEIM) continues in its proactive move in religious education by organising the Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain Class (KAFA).

According to a statement issued by UHEIM recently, participation to this class is opened to children of UMS staff and the surrounding community aged 7 to 12 years with a fee of RM30.00 per month.

The statement also added that the programme jointly organised by UHEIM and the Islamic Development of Malaysia (JAKIM) will be held daily from Monday to Friday from 2 February 2015 at UMS Mosque.
