THURSDAY, 22 MAY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is committed to serve the country through high quality research and competitive graduates.According to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah, the rapid development of infrastructure would demand human capital who have better skills and knowledge towards forming the country into a developed nation.
Thus, he urged all students to be more proactive in organising students programmes to nurture their abilities and as a reserve for the working world.
“I fully support the involvement of students in the programmes organised by the Department of Student Affairs in efforts to improve their soft skills,” he said in his speech during the Student Affairs and Alumni Appreciation Night (MAHEPA) recently.
At the ceremony, Datuk Dr. Harun also presented awards to students who excelled in individual and group categories.
For the individual, the recipients were Saripuddin Mappiasi (Outstanding Student Leader), Khairul Azmi Mustafa (Residential College Excellent Leader), Azieyana Aziz (School Association Excellent Leader), Nurlina Arappe (Excellent Volunteer), Chong Kai Chern (Creative and Innovative Student), Irwan @Edwan Abo Arbaee (Arts and Culture Excellent Student), Muhamad Anas Ahmad Siati (Hopeful Leader), and Lim Kai Wai (Entrepreneurship Student).
Meanwhile, HEPA Special Award was won by the President of the Student Representative Council (MPP) 2013/2014 Session, Fandyi Sanizan Jurup.
As for the team category, Student Mentor Partner Club UMS received the Best Student Organisation Programme, JAKMAS Kolej AB (Best JAKMAS Management), Business and Economics Students’ Association (Best Student School Association Management), Lentera Tari (Best Team Work), Ace Team (Creative and Innovative Best Student Group), Grup Teater Lab UMS (Arts and Culture Best Group) and ENACTUS group which won the Best Student Entrepreneurship Group.
Also present were member of the Board of Directors UMS, Dr. Hj. Mohd. Kassim Hj. Ibrahim including Principal and Senior Officers of the university. – ZMD (fl)

THURSDAY, 22 MAY – In conjunction with the of Israk and Mikraj events of Prophet Muhammad SAW on 27 Rejab, equivalent to Gregorian calendar 27 May, the Mosque and Islamic Affairs Unit (UHEIM) UMS held a talk on the definition of the wisdom of the Great Prophet Muhammad SAW Israk Mikraj at UMS Mosque.
“The development of technology has made networking with industries and job seekers closer and facilitate all parties involved,” he added.
