Institut Marin Borneo offers postgraduate research opportunities leading to Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees across four fields of study. Our postgraduate students undertake research with academic supervision and access to IMB's research expertise, facilities and field environments. Research may involve laboratory and experimental studies, field-based investigations, analytical and technological approaches, or interdisciplinary research addressing the sustainable use and management of aquatic and marine resources.
Field of Study
Aquaculture
Research in aquaculture addresses the science and development of sustainable aquatic production systems, including breeding and hatchery technology, nutrition and feeds, aquatic animal health, biotechnology, production systems, sustainability, and seafood security and safety.
Marine Science
Research in marine science explores marine environments, organisms and ecological processes, encompassing areas such as oceanography, marine biodiversity and ecology, coral reefs and coastal ecosystems, environmental change and related marine sciences.
Marine Biotechnology
Research in marine biotechnology applies biological and biotechnological approaches to marine organisms and resources, including the exploration, characterisation and development of marine biological resources and their potential applications.
Fisheries Science
Research in fisheries examines fish and fisheries resources, including fisheries ecology, stock assessment, resource dynamics, exploitation, enhancement and approaches supporting the sustainable management of fisheries.
