UTUMS

UMS Translation Unit was established on 20 January 2016 in response to a perceived need for a higher standard of writing in the university’s academic publications. The Unit was subsequently rebranded as UMS Translation and Editing Unit in February 2019 to reflect its expanded service niche. As an income generation entity of the university, the services of UTUMS as a centre for the translation and editing of academic writing, official documents and academic-related publications are extended to both UMS and external agencies.

Objectives

UTUMS provides consistent high-quality translation and editing services in Bahasa Melayu, English, Chinese, and other languages (subject to staff availability) for academic and non-academic output such as research papers, journal articles, conference papers, books, annual reports, and official certificates. While our primary goal is to help UMS academics and students, we are also pleased to offer our services to external agencies and individuals.

Aims

• Function as an income generation unit for UMS. All services contracted to UTUMS are chargeable according to prescribed rates.

• Ensure quality of service is on par with international standards. UTUMS provides a Certification of Service which has been acknowledged by external agencies such as embassies, consulates, government departments and publishing houses.

• Assist the university in increasing the number of quality publications among university academicians.

• Assist the Office of the Vice-Chancellor in aspects related to the translation or editing of speeches, documents, announcements, and press statements in Bahasa Melayu, English, Chinese or other languages.

• Provide translation and editing services to external agencies at competitive rates.
