SYMPOSIUM GOALS 

  • To provide a platform for information and knowledge sharing among participants and experts especially in the aspects of essential oils, plants, personal care products, cosmetics and their benefits to health. 
  • To discuss various issues, challenges and latest discoveries on the safety and health efficacy related to the essential oils, plants, personal care products and cosmetics. industries. 
  • To promote professional development, field collaborations, research networks, and industry involvement in the aspects of essential oils, plants, cosmetics and health.

The symposium will feature oral and poster presentation sessions coupled with keynote and plenary sessions by prominent speakers, please find the attached flyers for further information about our respected invited speakers.

🔸1. Talks on Protecting Sabah's Marine Wildlife and El Nino Awareness (9.30 am )
We have organised informative talks on the important topics of Sabah's marine wildlife conservation and climate awareness. A high profile speaker from Sabah Wildlife Department (Puan Siti Nur'Ain Ampuan Acheh) and a renowned expert in the field (Assoc. Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr. Ramzah Dambul, CEO, Institute for Development Studies, Sabah (IDS)) will enlighten us on the importance of marine biodiversity conservation and the impact of climate change. This event will provide a unique opportunity to broaden our understanding and explore possible avenues for our research and conservation efforts.
 
🔸2. MOU Signing Ceremony (11.00 am )
We are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BMRI, UMS and the Sabah Fisheries Department. This collaboration marks an important milestone and the Vice Chancellor of UMS will grace us with his presence.
 
🔸3. Closing Ceremony of the Ocean Celebration 2023 (11.00 am )
Finally, we will close Ocean Celebration 2023 with a grand closing ceremony. It will be a moment of reflection and appreciation for the incredible efforts of our organising committee. We invite you all to join us in celebrating the successful conclusion of this event.

Short bio:
Professor (Dr.) Gary Lit Ying Loong obtained his BSc degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS), under the Singapore  Service Commission (PSC) Merit Scholarship in 1979. He later pursued his MBA and MSc in the UK and obtained his PhD from the University of Melbourne in Australia. After retiring from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), he became a Visiting Professor to several universities in Asia and Europe. Besides conducting lectures and seminars, he is a regular contributor to New Straits Times and Star newspapers, and has also given numerous interviews with the major newspapers and TV stations in both Asia and Europe.
