ANNOUNCEMENT FROM: ETHNOGRAPHY AND DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH UNIT

The 2nd Social Transformation Conference 2015 will be held on Nov. 25-26 at the UMS Recital Hall and FKSW. The theme for this year’s event is “Towards Community Development, Culture and Sustainable Environment.” The official opening of the programme will be led by YB. DATUK SERI PANGLIMA HJ. HAJIJI BIN HJ. MOHD. NOOR (the Minister for Local Government and Housing, State of Sabah, Malaysia), together with the UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah.
The conference will feature a hundred paper presentations on various topics on gender, migration, health, security, agriculture, media and information technology, island and coastal development, history and civilisation among many other areas related to development. Apart from the participants from Malaysia, there are also paper presenters from Philippines.
This conference is mainly organised by the Ethnography and Development Research Unit and the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Heritage. The first Social Transformation Conference was held in 2013 with the objective of providing a platform for intellectual exchange and discussions and contribute to the country’s Vision 2020.
