Special Needs Students Expose to DET Course

okuTUESDAY, 23 DECEMBER – A total of 20 special needs students (OKU) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) attended the Disability Equality Training (DET) Course held at the Multipurpose Hall Residential College CD, recently.

The course was organised to introduce to the public on issues and discrimination faced by OKU besides changing society’s outlook, system and present policies of this group.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) UMS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Ali, the course gave a lot of exposure to the participants and could become a stepping stone towards minimising the gap with society.

”I believe, we might not be able to reap what we sow today, but at least it will be enjoyed by the underpriviledged and the society in future,” he said at the official opening of the course.

His speech was read by the Head of the Residential College CD, Dr. Mohamad Nizam Nazarudin.

He added, the course also highlighted on the priviledges for the OKU.

The programme was jointly organised by Residential College CD and UMS Student Affairs Department, as well as the Psychology and Social Health Research Unit. – HH & ZMD (fl)
