UMS Welcomes New International Students

IEPP 1MONDAY, 20 OCTOBER – An Intensive English Preparatory Programme (IEPP) formerly known as International Students Foundation Programme or ISFP was organised today conducted by UMS Link Holdings Sdn Bhd, to welcome Batch 25 of International Students to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

The welcoming ceremony was held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and attended by 69 new international students including three from Cambodia. This was the first batch of Cambodian students registering at UMS.

UMS Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah said that this programme will equip the new international students with the needed foundation to assist them in preparation for the next stage of their education in UMS as well as socialising with different background of students both local or international. His speech was read by Molly Donna Datuk Awang Sham, Acting Director of the Centre for International Affairs.

“We intend to increase the number of international students even further, with curriculum aligned with the majority of education systems around the world, making it easier for students to pursue their studies here,” Datuk Harun further stated.

Earlier, Group General Manager of UMS Link Holdings Sdn Bhd, Ramlan Awang Ali in his speech advised that today’s job market looked for graduates who have knowledge and skills such as the ability to communicate with others, work under pressure and in teams, organise their time well, and meet deadline.

The IEPP was introduced in 2003 to assist international students who do not have the basic English entry requirement to pursue their studies in Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree programmes in UMS. – FL
