
Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) has formalised a strategic partnership with Sedafiat Sdn Bhd through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in digital development, human capital growth and sustainability initiatives.
UMS vice-chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor said the MoU marks the beginning of a collaboration reflecting a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability and community wellbeing.
“The partnership will involve the joint development of digital solutions through the UMS Digital Department to support Sedafiat’s technological operations, as well as industrial training opportunities for our training opportunities for our students,” he said at the MoU signing ceremony held at the UMS Digital Department Auditorium recently.
He added that Sedafiat would also provide scholarships for B40 (low-income) students and persons with disabilities, aimed at improving access to education and social mobility.
He further noted that the collaboration would include talent development programme including workshops and training for students and staff
from both institutions.
Among the initiatives outline are hospital landscaping projects involving the UMS Faculty of Tropical Forestry, the development of a multipurpose cabin at the SFERA@UMS project site, and the implementation of composting technology and circular waste management projects to support environmental sustainability.
“Collaboration between higher education institutions and industry is vital in producing innovative solutions and contributing to holistic national development,” he said.
Also present were UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor(Academic and International), Prof Datuk Dr Rossita Shapawi; UMS registrar Luqman Ridha Anwar; and UMS Digital Department Chief Digital Officer, Prof. Dr. Ag Asri Ag Ibrahim.
