
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy (FBEA), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and Yuhan University, South Korea, recently signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) here as an initial step towards establishing a strategic partnership that will lead to formalise a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
FBEA UMS Dean, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd. Rahimie Abd. Karim representing FBEA UMS signed the LoI document, while Yuhan University represented by Dean, Department of Health Wellness Social Welfare Major, Associate Professor Dr. Kim Yuna.
Under the proposed collaboration, the two universities agreed to explore cooperation in student mobility through short-term programs such as summer and winter camps, cultural immersion, and study visits.
Long-term programs under discussion include semester exchange, credit transfer, and potential dual degree programs.
The partnership is also expected to encompass faculty and scholar exchanges, joint research, Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), academic conferences, seminars, and cultural exchange activities.
In addition, the discussions also covered the establishment of a Korean Language and Cultural Centre at UMS, expansion of Korean language education, implementation of K-Culture programs, and collaboration in hospitality, tourism, fashion, and international business education.
Yuhan University also introduced potential scholarship opportunities for partner institution students.
As follow-up actions, both universities will continue the discussions on dual degree programs, research collaborations, student mobility frameworks, and the development of a 2026–2029 cooperation roadmap.
This initiative underscores the shared commitment of UMS and Yuhan University to strengthening academic partnerships and providing greater international learning opportunities for students and faculty members.
