On March 6, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Melvin Gan Jet Hong received the Kurita Overseas Research Grant's (KORG) Best Research 2023 Award in Ninh Binh City, Vietnam.
After completing her PhD in 2016, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr Noor Sheena established a Malaysian standard seismic design, the Malaysia Annex or MSEN1998:2015 (2017), providing Malaysian engineers with a guideline for earthquake-resistant building construction. These seismic values are generated using probabilistic mathematical modelling of self-built programs with verification from other commercial software.
The First National Symposium on Sustainable Construction was held at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on 28 November 2024 with a theme “Unlocking the Potential of De-oiled Bleaching Earth (DOBE) for Eco-friendly Construction Solutions.
On October 29, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering hosted the second installment of the series "Research in University: Why It Is So Important to Us as Lecturers." The talk was delivered by Professor Ts. Dr. Uda Hashim, a distinguished recent addition to Faculty of Engineering’s academic team. Prior to joining UMS, Prof. Uda served as the Director at the Institute of Nano Electronic Engineering and as Deputy Vice Chancellor at Universiti Malaysia Perlis. He is a prominent researcher in microelectronics and nanoelectronics, particularly known for his work on biosensors and medical devices.
Talk title: How do Energy Savings and Tree Planting Correlate On August 9, 2024, The Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS); through its Civil Engineering Club organized the Environmental Awareness talk session which was delivered by Ts. Dr. Siti Birkha binti Mohd Ali from Universiti Selangor (UNISEL). She is one of the IET Malaysia Local Network (LN) committee 2023/2025. The talk aimed to provide insight into the environmental impact of energy savings, namely electricity consumption in buildings. During the sharing session, the correlation between energy savings in kilowatt-hours (kWh), energy consumption costs (RM), and carbon emissions (CO2) was demonstrated.
