Entry Requirements for the Doctoral Degree
(a) Possess a Master’s degree in a related field from a higher education institution recognised by the Senate; or
(b) Possess another qualification equivalent to a Master’s degree in a related field and recognised by the Government of Malaysia; and
(c) Candidates without the required qualification or working experience in a relevant field must pass prerequisite courses as determined by the Faculty/Centre/Academy/Institute.
(d) Other requirements set by the Faculty/Centre/Academy/Institute and approved by the Senate.
Language Requirements
2.4.1 International candidates must obtain at least:
(a) Band 5 in the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or a score of 40 in the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or a score of 47 in the PTE (Pearson Test of English); or
(b) Band 3.5 in the MUET examination; or
(c) Must enrol in the Certificate in Progressive English Programme (PEP) for six (6) months with a maximum allowable period of two (2) years and pass the MUET with at least Band 3.5.
2.4.2 Sub-regulation 2.1.1 shall not apply in the following cases:
(a) International students from countries where English is the official language; or
(a.i) International students who have obtained academic qualifications from institutions where English is used as the full medium of instruction, and must submit supporting documentation from their respective higher education institutions.
(b) Candidates who have obtained a degree from any university in Malaysia; or
(c) Programmes of study that do not require the use of English.
(d) Programmes of study that specify higher English language qualification requirements than those stated, and such requirements are approved by the University Senate.
