A Brief Programme Information

Diploma in Chemical Engineering (Oil and Gas) at Universiti Malaysia Sabah is a 3 years programme study which mainly covers the downstream activities in oil and gas industry. This program is designed to produce graduates with state-of-the-art knowledge and skills required to work as a process technician in oil and gas industries. This programme will have direct industry involvement, including industry advisory panels, guest lectures, industrial visit, final year project and industrial training. 
 
The programme includes theoretical and practical studies which cover process and production operation, processing instrumentation maintenance and testing, and safety. The major programme courses include Hydrocarbon Chemistry; Engineering Science; Health, Safety and Environment; Fluid Mechanics; Thermodynamics; Separation Process; Process Utility and Facilities; Process Control and Instrumentation; Introduction to Oil and Gas Engineering; Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practices; Oil and Gas Production Operations; Oil and Gas Transportation and Storage; and Operation and Maintenance Management.

PO1: Knowledge
Apply knowledge of applied mathematics, applied science, computing and engineering fundamentals in chemical (oil and gas) engineering to wide practical procedures and practices.

PO2: Problem Analysis
Identify and analyse well-defined engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using codified methods of analysis specific to chemical (oil and gas) engineering activities.

PO3: Design/Development of Solutions
Design solutions in chemical (oil and gas) engineering for well-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems, components or processes to meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, as well as cultural, societal, and environmental consideration.

PO4: Investigation
Conduct investigations of well-defined problems; locate and search relevant codes and measurements in chemical (oil and gas) engineering.

PO5: Tool Usage
Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering computing and IT tools to well-defined chemical (oil and gas) engineering problems, with an awareness of the limitations.

PO6: The Engineer Technician and the World
Consider sustainable development impacts to: society, the economy, sustainability, health and safety, legal frameworks, and the environment, in solving well-defined chemical (oil and gas) engineering problems.

PO7: Ethics
Understand and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of technician practice and including compliance with national and international laws in chemical (oil and gas) engineering. Demonstrate an understanding of the need for diversity and inclusion.

PO8: Individual and Collaborative Team Work
Function effectively as an individual, and as a member in diverse and inclusive teams in multi-disciplinary, face-to-face, remote and distributed settings.

Entry Requirements:

i. passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or an examination recognized as equivalent by the Malaysian Government;

AND

ii. at least Passed (Grade D) in English subject;

AND

iii. at least Credit (Grade C) in the following three subjects:

    a. Physic

    b. Mathematics / Additional Mathematics

    c. Chemistry / Biology / Engineering Drawing / Reka Bentuk Teknologi;

AND

iv. not having colour blindness or physical disability that makes practical work difficult;

AND

v. any other conditions prescribed by the Senate from time to time;

AND

vi. any admission requirements set by Senate for international students.
