A Brief Programme Information

The field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering plays a significant role in shaping our society. The impact can be seen in sustainable electrical system and electronic consumer products that have served to enhance our quality of life as well forming the basis for major economic activity. Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme offers an academic study spanning over Power System, Communication System, Microelectonics and Nanoelectronics, Signal and Image Processing, and Control and Automation.

Students begin with a unifying foundation that introduces the areas of electrical system and electronics, and then systematically build up broad foundations and depth in the different sub-disciplines. Laboratory experimentation, industrial internship, team-based design project and independent final year project provide engagement with principles and techniques of analysis, design, and experimentation. In the final year of studies, students may choose to specialize in any one of the sub-disciplines on offer. This programme is accredited by the Board of Engineers Malaysia and the Washington Accord which allows our graduates to practice as engineers in signatory countries.

4-year programme
Accredited by BEM
PEO 1: Professionalism
Graduates of the programme will establish themselves in electrical and electronic engineering or related profession in corporations, organisations or institutions.

The PEO1, professionalism is referred to attainment in participation and involvement in professional bodies such as BEM, IEM, IEEE, etc. Besides that, PEO1 also referred to the competence or skill in practicing electric and electronic engineering fields in various type of sectors, hold position of leadership in an organization and/or team.

PEO2: Career Enhancement
Graduate of the electrical and electronic program have pursued their engineering related career growth through education and training.

The PEO2, career enhancement is described as the attainment in participation and involvement in higher education, training, courses, recognition and awards. POE2 also referred to the dissemination of their expertise to the society through talks, documentation, articles etc.

PEO3: Corporate Societal Responsibility
Graduate of the programme have contributed to sustainable development through innovative technologies to serve the needs of the “local” society and the nation as a whole.

In PEO3, the graduates are expected to contribute in the sustainable development through innovative technologies which will fulfil the society’s needs by participating in local project, community service and knowledge/technology transfer etc.

In order to meet the obligations stated in the University and Faculty mission and vision statement, twelve Programme Outcomes (POs) are used. These Programme Outcomes are the specific skills and knowledge that our students are expected to have obtained at the time of their graduation from the programme as stipulated by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC), the delegated body by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as the only recognized accrediting body for engineering degree programmes offered in Malaysia. Students graduating from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Programme at Faculty of Engineering will be expected and prepared to exercise the skills and abilities listed below:

PO 1: Engineering Knowledge

Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem Analysis

Identify, formulate, research literature and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.

PO3: Design/Development of Solution

Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4: Investigation

Conduct investigation into complex problems using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5: Modern Tool Usage

Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6: The Engineer and Society

Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.

PO7: Environment and Sustainability

Understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

PO8: Ethics

Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, responsibilities, and norms of engineering practice.

PO9: Individual and Team Work

Function effectively as an individual, as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10: Communication

Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PO11: Project Management and Finance

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

PO12: Life Long Learning

Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change;
