Polish Soft Skills to be Excellent Graduates: Vice-Chancellor

tamugadang 2THURSDAY, 20th NOVEMBER – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah urged students to fulfil their responsibilities to pursue their studies and polished their soft skills in order for them to become excellent UMS graduates.
 
He also added that student’s involvement in programmes and students’ activities are one of the ways to educate the students to balance their academic and non-academic life.
 
“The students’ involvement in organizing programmes, this Tamu Gadang as an example, of course is encouraged since this type of involvement is seen as ways of increasing their leadership and also soft skills which can’t be obtained through their academic learning session,” he said during UMS Tamu Gadang 2014 Opening Ceremony last night.
 
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Head of State cum UMS Chancellor, His Excellency Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar Datuk Haji Mahiruddin.
 
Datuk Harun also advised the graduands, soon will become UMS alumni, and urged them to use all the skills that they have learned and achieved here in UMS and to use those skills at the employment market, which is now facing fierce competition more than ever before.
 
The UMS Tamu Gadang opening ceremony was also liven up by singing performance and music orchestra from both UMS and RTM Combo, and also a special performance by Dato’ Nash.
 
UMS Board of Directors Chairman, Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki Tun Azmi, Deputy Speakers of Sabah Legislative Assembly, Datuk Dr. Johnson Tee dan Sabah assistant ministers also present during the ceremony. -MA(JA)-
