UMS Supports Malaysia Book of Records Solo Swim

Bot NagaFRIDAY, 15 MAY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) supported the effort of solo swimmer, Mohd. Ikhmil Faweds Mohd. Hanif, in charting a name in the ‘Malaysia Book of Records’ through a solo swim as far as 60 kilometres in the waters of Sabah, recently.

Ikhmil, 41 who hails from Johor started his swim from Kuala Penyu swimming across 32.39 nautical miles and finished at Tanjung Aru Beach in 24 hours 30 minutes.

According to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Dr. Ismail Ali, UMS had provided a conducive training area for Ikhmil, besides getting help from Sports Science programme teaching staff to help him prepare for this challenge.

“Ikhmil’s spirit should be emulated by all young people especially students of UMS in supporting the nation’s vision, he added.

In the challenge, Ikhmil’s swim was accompanied by two UMS dragon boats and 50 volunteers, led by Mohd. Taufik Nordin who also swam alongside Ikhmal as far as 300 metres to the finish line.

Meanwhile, two UMS students, Mohammad Irsyadiman Allmui and Mohd. Ishak Allmui had also accompanied the swimmer for 24 hours during this challenge. – ZMD (fl)
