FKJ Receives Two Excellence Awards at UMS University Excellence Awards 2026

KOTA KINABALU, 27 August 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering (FKJ), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), achieved another significant milestone by receiving two major recognitions at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah University Excellence Awards (AKU) held at The Klagan Hotel, 1Borneo. FKJ was presented with the Sustainability Excellence Award – Overall Category and the Best Organisational Management Award 2025, recognizing the faculty’s collective efforts in strengthening sustainability practices while maintaining effective organizational management. The Sustainability Excellence Award reflects FKJ’s continuous integration of sustainability across teaching, research, campus operations, student development and community engagement. The faculty has implemented initiatives related to composting, waste management, renewable energy, aquaponics, water security, tree planting, recycling, climate awareness and community-based knowledge transfer.

These activities demonstrate a broad approach in which engineering knowledge is applied to address environmental and social challenges. Among the initiatives highlighted in FKJ’s sustainability efforts are community composting programmes, sustainable agriculture and aquaponics projects, STEM and TVET outreach, 3R activities, coastal clean-up programmes and renewable energy initiatives. These programmes have benefited students, schools and local communities while strengthening partnerships with government agencies, industries, NGOs and other UMS entities. The Best Organizational Management Award 2025 further reflects the faculty’s commitment to effective governance, coordination and continuous improvement in supporting its academic, research and community responsibilities.

These achievements were made possible through the commitment and cooperation of academic staff, administrative and technical personnel, students and strategic partners. Collectively, they demonstrate FKJ’s effort to build a faculty culture that balances academic excellence, responsible management and sustainability. Through these recognitions, FKJ continues to strengthen its contribution to UMS as a faculty that integrates engineering excellence with sustainability, innovation and effective organizational governance.
