Karnival-Pendidikan-Tinggi-Negara-2015-Jom-Masuk-UFRIDAY, 10 APRIL – The public are invited to attend the National Higher Education Carnival (KPTN) “Jom Masuk IPT” which will start tomorrow until Sunday at the Parade Ground (Padang Kawad) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

The carnival, which begins at 8.30 am until 5.30 pm will feature a variety of programmes such as education exhibition, forum, guidance and counselling services including quizzes besides other activities featuring attractive prizes.

Meanwhile, the carnival is also a one-stop information centre for those who want to get more information on higher education opportunities, accreditation and sponsorship or financing of study.

The carnival will also include other departments and agencies under the Ministry of Education (KPM) such as Public and Private Universities, the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and various other agencies.

The closing ceremony will be held tomorrow and is expected to be officiated by Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman. Also scheduled to attend is Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah. – SS (fl)

Basic Life Support TrainingFRIDAY, 10 APRIL – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Labuan International Campus Faculty of Computer and Informatics (FKI) Students Association recently organised a Basic Life Support Training.

The programme which was in collaboration with the Department of Emergency and Trauma Women and Children Hospital Sabah was participated by 63 participants comprising academic staff and students of UMSKAL.

The programme aimed to provide basic skills training and knowledge on the important procedures when providing initial emergency response to victims.

The two-day programme which was held at UMSKAL Tower Building was conducted by the Emergency Medical Specialist, Dr. Cheah Phee Kheng along with 12 other medical officers.

According to UMSKAL Director, Associate Professor Dr. Murnizam Hj. Halik who acted on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah welcomed such programme that benefit the staff and students of the university especially when it was related to the safety of a Public University (UA).

“We will take different approaches to produce skilled community in the university who are experts in various fields including rescuing victims of emergencies,” he said. – ZMD (fl)

KAFA UMSTHURSDAY, 9 APRIL – The Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain (KAFA) class of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Mosque recently participated in the Ihtifal KAFA Menggatal district level for the first time.

The competition which was held at the Taman Indah Permai Mosque, Kota Kinabalu was participated by 12 KAFA students of UMS Mosque.

Nik Anis Arfina, 7, emerged as the 2nd runner-up in the Qariah category in the Tilawah Al-Quran competition.

According to a statement issued by the Islamic Centre of UMS (PIUMS), the debut by UMS KAFA in this competition hoped to give an encouragement to future entrants.

The statement added that activities such as this could improve students personality in their early state of school. – ZMD (fl)

bengkel pelupusan kalTHURSDAY, 09 APRIL – About 60 employees of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Labuan International Campus (KAL) attended the Records Disposition Workshop, recently.

The participants comprised Assistant Administrative Officers and Administrative Assistants who joined the two-day workshop held at the Executive Conference Room, Level 11, Tower Building UMSKAL.

The workshop was organised by the Director of the National Archives Department Sabah Branch, Saudah Ab Manap and Assistant Director, Corriena Imang.

Saudah said the workshop, which was held for the first time aimed to provide an understanding by civil servants especially staff of UMSKAL on the method of disposing of records correctly.

“It is the responsibility of the National Archives of Malaysia Sabah Branch to help civil servants, especially staff of UMSKAL on the correct and systematic way of disposing of records,” she said.

The workshop was organised in collaboration with the Administration Division of UMSKAL in collaboration with the National Archives Sabah Branch. – SS (fl)

PPPM-PTTHURSDAY, 9 APRIL – The Malaysian Education Development Plan 2015-2025 (Higher Education) (PPPM-PT) is expected to become one of the country’s transformation to compete internationally.

Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak said the plan, which outlined ten shifts was able to create human capital that was categorised as 3B that are talent (bakat), global (bertaraf global) and based on positive value (berteraskan nilai positif).

“I am confident that this plan will be a catalyst for transformation and can determine a more excellent future for the country,” he said when opening the PPPM-PT plan, recently.

According to him PPPM-PT focussed on generating talented students that were important for a country to maintain its success.

“Students who are positive spiritually, morally, with ethics and strength will highlight the national identity in line with the progress of the country,” he added.

The launch of PPPM-PT at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Tun Zaki Tun Azmi; Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah and Acting Registrar, No’man Datuk Hj Ahmad.

The ten shifts outlined in the PPPM-PT were Holistic Entrepreneurial and Balanced Graduates, Higher Learning Talent Excellence, Nation of Lifelong Learners, Quality TVET Graduates, Financial Sustainability, Empowered Governance, Innovation Ecosystem, Global Prominence, Globalised Online Learning and Transformed Higher Education Delivery. – ZMD (fl)
