Introduction
The MPH programme is accredited by:
  • Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA-FA3722) and
  • Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH)
Entry Requirements

A Candidate who wishes to enrol in a Master in Public Health (MPH) postgraduate programme shall fulfil the following requirements: -

    • Attain a Medical Doctor’s degree or medical qualification recognized by the Senate and the Malaysian Medical Council
            with minimum CGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, and
    • Experience of at least one year as a medical officer (after completing 2 years Houseman-ship) and preferably have
           experience working in public health for a year, or
    • Having a Medical Doctor’s Degree (MD, MBBS) (Level 6 KKM) with a CGPA below 2.50 with a minimum of 5 years
            working experience (including houseman-ship) in the relevant field.
    • The Malaysia Certificate of Examination (SPM) results with credit in Bahasa Malaysia- for Malaysian candidates
Other Requirements

For international candidate came from university where the medium of instruction is not English

Band 6 in an English language IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or obtains TOEFL test (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score 550.



International candidates must submit substantial evidence of financial status such as bank and sponsors’ guarantee letters and other relevant supporting documents to ensure that candidates are financially able to further their studies at UMS
Study Duration
Full-Time only (6 semester)
Course Structure
  1. Students will be guided through lectures, seminars, small group discussion, project work, field visits, presentations, and one-to-one discussion
  2. There are TWO components to the programme:
  • Course Work – consists of compulsory and elective modules that provide background knowledge and skills required by a public health practitioner.
  • Research with Dissertation – comprises a series of research-related courses and a research project to demonstrate and present critical approaches to specific issues of public health matters

  1. Course Work (34 credit hours)

Obtained a CGPA of 3.00 in addition to passing each module with at least a grade B
