PRSiswa IcampWEDNESDAY, 15 APRILA total of 18 committee members of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Student Mentor Club (PRSiswa) successfully held an I-Camp Community Service Programme in Johor recently.

According to the Programme Director, Nurul Aiin Zaiton; the event was organised in collaboration with the Student Mentor Club (Persis) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Nurul of the School of Psychology and Social Work (SPKS) UMS said the community service programme received good response from the four selected locations.

“Among them were MARA Professional College, Bandar Penawar; Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Raja Muda; SMK Seri Menanti and the National Anti-Dadah Agency Muar,” she said when contacted by reporters.

She added that the community service with the theme ‘Character As the Catalyst for Student Excellence’ was aimed at inculcating soft skills to develop excellent personality among undergrads to produce competitive human capital.

“It is also an effort to strengthen ties with the open community,” she said.

Also present was the Coordinator of the UMS PRSiswa Club and Psychology Officer, Adzmil Abidin.

For the record, UMS PRSiswa last year also hosted the Community Service Programme East Coast Wave in Kelantan. SS (fl)

USIMWEDNESDAY, 15 APRILUniversiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) continues to take proactive measures to improve the quality of education in line with the government’s objective to gain recognition at international standard.
 
The intention was also shared by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) which recently made a working visit to UMS.

The visit made by the delegation comprising 11 USIM staff was intended as a sharing of experience and expertise.

Their arrival was warmly received by the Acting Head of Academic Services (BPA) UMS, Dayang Hajah Maimunah Adnan, who then gave a presentation on the management and academic affairs of BPA UMS.

Meanwhile, Senior Deputy Registrar of USIM Academic Management Division, Hammad Farhi Mohd Saudi when met said the visit was a return visit to BPA UMS who visited them in June 2012.

“It is also to foster closer relationship between USIM and UMS as well as a platform for mutual exchange of ideas on academic developments at both universities,” he added.

The delegation also visited the campus grounds besides visiting the UMS Museum as well as the Academic and Research Gallery. – ZMD (fl)

Futsal Jakmas AB
TUESDAY, 15 APRIL – The Student Welfare Committee Sports and Recreation Exco, Residential College Anugerah Bestari (Kolej AB) Session 2013/2014 will be holding a sporting activity themed ‘Futsal Semarak Piala Dunia’ 2014 for two days beginning 19 April.

According to a statement released by JAKMAS AB, the programme adopted the concept of ‘Charity Through Futsal’ and will channel the proceeds of the donations and sponsorship of several sponsors to the Rumah Anak Kesayangan (Nur Muhammad), Sembulan.

The statement added that the game will be participated by students from private colleges such as Ascot Academy Kota Kinabalu and Sabah Foundation College in addition to participation among UMS students.

A voting session for playing teams will be conducted on 17 April 2014 (Thursday) at the AB Multipurpose Hall where each team will select the countries competing in the World Cup 2014
.
The closing ceremony will be officiated by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Assoc. Prof. Datuk Dr. Hj. Kasim Hj. Md Mansur at Likas Sports Complex.

The ‘Futsal Semarak Piala Dunia’ 2014 is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and a number of private bodies such as the Sabah International Dairies, Raisul Trading and QL Marine Products. – ZMD (fl)

semega MPPTUESDAY, 15 APRIL A caring attitude in providing community service continues to be the practice of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in disseminating knowledge to the local community.

Recently, through a combination of collaborations among the Student Representatives Council (MPP), FELDA Students Collaboration (PERSADA UMS), and the Publicity Department (FELDA) Sabah held a knowledge sharing programme ‘Selangkah Ke Menara Gading’ (SEMEGA) in nine secondary schools in Tawau.

According to the President of MPP, Fandyi Sanizan Jurup; the two-day programme was aimed at creating awareness among local youths to study hard and enter into higher learning institutions especially UMS.

“This is a motivational programme providing a glimpse into campus life through a video presentation which portrays the challenges and excitement of being an undergraduate.

“The motivational programme was presented by the students of UMS itself which is seen to eliminate the perception that life is difficult in the university with multiple pressures,” he told reporters.

Pesta CahayaMONDAY, 14 APRILSome of the proceeds from the sales of the tickets to the ‘Fiesta Cahaya’ 2014 or Festival of Lights will be distributed to charity homes around Kota Kinabalu.

This was mentioned by the project, Kuhan Raj who told Media Chancellery in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) today.

He said about 4,000 targeted visitors were expected to attend the fiesta on 26 April 2014.

“This event will bring together undergraduates from colleges, universities and the public and private institutions in Sabah with tickets priced as low as RM6.00 for students and RM10.00 for the public,” he added.

This annual event organised by the Art, Culture and Indian Heritage Secretariat of the Arts and Culture Department, Student Representatives Council (MPP) among others was aimed at disseminating culture and tradition of the Indians to the local community, particularly in Sabah.

Located at Dewan Canselor (Chancellor Hall) UMS, the programme is expected to be officiated by the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

This 11th edition of Fiesta Cahaya will feature various Indian dances, including from the ethnics of Tamil, Hindustani, Telegu, Kadhakali, Malayalam and Rajasthani. – ZMD (fl)
