Hari Keluarga FPLWEDNESDAY, 21 JANUARY – In appreciation of the dedicated commitment of its academic and non-academic staff, the Welfare and Recreation Club of the Faculty of Sustainable Agriculture will organise its Family Day 2015 scheduled for next month.

The programme which will be the first, aims to foster better relationship among its employees besides appreciating their hardwork and continuous support.

According to the Secretary of the programme, Jelson Ationg, about 60 employees along with their families will be joining the programme which will be held by the lakeside of the campus.

According to him, among the activities planned includes aerobics, karaoke and telematch.

“There will also be lucky draws with the grand prize being an LCD television set,” he said when contacted by Media.

FPL Family Day 2015 will be held on 7 February and will be officiated by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Wan Mohamad Wan Othman. – ZMD (fl)

kpm logoWEDNESDAY, 21 JANUARY – A meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Education Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will be held this Friday.

To be held at the Main Lecture Hall Complex 2, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), the special meeting with educators of educational institutions among others, is to discuss the direction and goals of national education and the role of educators towards the success of the national education agenda.

More than 2,000 educators from various educational institutions are expected to attend this special meeting which will commence at 7.00 pm.

rafale ums teknoTUESDAY, 20 JANUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in collaboration with Rafale International today organised a 'Rafale Techno-Day' held at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKSK).

According to Rafale International Programme Director for Malaysia, Daniel Fremont, the programme aimed to share advances in defence technology with the people of Malaysia.

“This sharing focuses on nanotechnology, and breakthrough in airborne radar and electronic warfare systems. The event also highlights the commitment of Rafale to Malaysia and opportunities for joint collaboration,” he said when delivering his speech at the event.

Meanwhile, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) UMS, Professor Dr. Shahril Yusof said in his speech, in addition to that UMS was very fortunate to have the opportunity to be the co-organiser of the talk which featured leaders in the field of nanotechnology that can provide a scientific perspective, application and commercialisation to research.

“This talk is in line with UMS aspirations to convey knowledge on current issues and modern perspective,” he added.

Cinta RasulTUESDAY, 20 JANUARY – The Mosque and Islamic Affairs (UHEIM) Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) invites university staff, students and the local community to an event called  ‘Ikatan Cinta dan Ittiba Rasulullah’ which will be held on 22 January at UMS Mosque.

According to a statement issued by UHEIM, the event will begin at 4.30 pm with the recitation of ‘Selawat Barakat Makkiyah’ by about 200 students of Tahfiz al-Quran and Pusat Latihan Dakwah Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (JAKIM).

The event, organised in conjunction with the celebration of Maulidur Rasul UMS level also included a talk on ‘Hakikat Ittaba’ which will be presented by Maulana Razif Abd Wahab.

In addition, the programme will also have a lecture and ‘Ijazat Kitab Barakaat Makkiyah’ by religious scholars from Pakistan, Syeikh Muhammad Zubair Ruhani Bazi and Syeikh Muhammad Zuhair Ruhani Bazi.

The event is expected to be attended by the Mufti of Sabah, Ustaz Bungsu @ Aziz Haji Jaafar and UMS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Mohd Harun Abdullah. – ZMD (fl)

vc penerbitanTUESDAY, 20th JANUARY – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Harun Abdullah urges the academicians to increase their academic publication together in helping to raise the university rank.

He explained that every university, including UMS, have their own key performance indicator (KPI) in publication to achieve. Hence, academicians should carry out their duties publishing in ensuring their fixed university’s KPI achieved.

“The previous Board of Directors meeting have agreed to every lecturer must produce at least one publication yearly, either journal or scholarly books.”

“Since there are more than 800 academicians in the university, the KPI for publication should be achievable if every lecturer takes their responsibility and try to achieve at least one publication in a year.”

He was quoted saying in a special meeting with the academic staffs, discussing the issues regarding UMS journal and books publications at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Auditorium.

Referring to 41 per cent academicians numbers who are not producing any publication, Datuk Harun reminded to not to make conducting a project or research as an excuse to the failure of producing their yearly publication.

Despite hiccups, he is positive that this year UMS will be able to increase their numbers in publication.

“Looking at the good response from the academicians, I am positive that every efforts and energy in increasing the numbers for publication can be makes with everyone cooperation. Thus, this will gained UMS reputation globally,” he said. -MA (JA)-
