KOTA KINABALU, SABAH – The Faculty of Food Science and Nutrition (FSMP), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), organised the Spark of Hope Programme at the Ronald McDonald House, Sabah Women and Children's Hospital (HWKKS), as part of its community outreach initiative to support children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.
The programme was initiated by FSMP students under the guidance of Dr. Norazlina Mohammad Ridhwan, Programme Coordinator, and Ms. Intan Shafiana Md. Zain, Programme Director. A range of interactive and recreational activities was conducted to create a cheerful and supportive atmosphere for the children while offering encouragement and companionship to their families throughout their stay at the Ronald McDonald House.
As part of the programme, FSMP also presented a donation to the Ronald McDonald House in support of its ongoing efforts to provide a welcoming and comfortable environment for families caring for children receiving medical treatment.
The Spark of Hope Programme reflects UMS's commitment to cultivating compassion, volunteerism, and social responsibility among its students through meaningful community engagement. Beyond contributing to the well-being of the children and their families, the programme provided students with a valuable opportunity to develop empathy, leadership, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation of the importance of serving the community.
FSMP hopes that initiatives such as Spark of Hope will continue to strengthen the university's relationship with the community while inspiring students to become graduates who are not only academically accomplished but also caring individuals dedicated to making a positive difference in society.
