KOTA KINABALU - Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) terus memperkukuh peranannya sebagai hab penyelidikan keterjaminan makanan melalui penganjuran International Conference on Food Security 2025 (ICFS 2025) yang berlangsung hari ini.

Persidangan yang menghimpunkan seramai 251 pakar tempatan dan antarabangsa tersebut membincangkan perkembangan terkini, cabaran serta inovasi strategik dalam menjamin sistem makanan yang berdaya tahan dan mampan.
Matlamat utamanya adalah untuk mencari penyelesaian bersama terhadap isu sekuriti makanan yang kian meruncing akibat perubahan iklim dan tekanan ekonomi global.
Menurut Timbalan Menteri Pertanian dan Keterjaminan Makanan, Datuk Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, sekuriti makanan merupakan isu penting yang diberi keutamaan dalam negara.
“Malaysia komited memperkukuh pengeluaran domestik, mengurangkan kebergantungan import serta memanfaatkan teknologi AgriFood Tech 4.0 untuk menjamin sistem makanan negara yang lebih bersedia menghadapi masa depan.
“Sekuriti makanan adalah tanggungjawab bersama, ia perlu melibatkan kerjasama erat antara akademia, industri, pembuat dasar dan komuniti.
“Tanpa sinergi semua pihak, strategi terbaik sekalipun tidak dapat direalisasikan sepenuhnya.
“Sumber protein alternatif, teknologi makanan baharu, serta penyelidikan sains makanan perlu diperkukuh bagi memastikan kita mampu memberi makan kepada populasi yang semakin meningkat tanpa menjejaskan kelestarian alam sekitar,” kataya.
Beliau berkata demikian ketika merasmikan persidangan ICFS 2025 yang berlangsung secara dalam talian melalui platfrom Webex.
Persidangan tersebut merupakan anjuran bersama rakan antarabangsa daripada University of Novi Sad, Serbia dan Universitas Brawijaya, Indonesia.
Sementara itu, Naib Canselor UMS, Profesor Datuk Dr. Kasim Haji Mansor berkata, komitmen UMS terhadap agenda keterjaminan makanan dipacu melalui Food Security Research Laboratory, yang memainkan peranan strategik dalam penyelidikan dan pembangunan inovasi berkaitan pengeluaran makanan mampan, keselamatan makanan dan pemakanan.
“Makmal ini bukan sahaja melaksanakan penyelidikan, tetapi turut menerjemahkan dapatan kepada amalan sebenar melalui kerjasama rapat dengan agensi kerajaan, industri dan komuniti.
“Inisiatif penyelidikan UMS menyokong sepenuhnya Dasar Agromakanan Negara (2.0) dan Pelan Tindakan Dasar Sekuriti Makanan 2021–2025, selain memanfaatkan biodiversiti unik Sabah untuk menangani isu sekuriti makanan pada skala global,” katanya.
Tambah Kasim, persidangan ini bukan sekadar platform akademik, ia adalah ruang yang mencetuskan idea transformasi dan kerjasama bermakna untuk mewujudkan sistem makanan yang lebih berdaya tahan dan lestari.
Persidangan ICFS 2025 turut memberi tumpuan kepada pembinaan kapasiti, pendidikan, dan pengukuhan jaringan antarabangsa sebagai elemen utama merangka dasar makanan moden.
UMS yakin bahawa ICFS 2025 akan menjadi ruang penting dalam merangka strategi berimpak tinggi untuk masa depan sistem makanan negara dan dunia.
Dengan penglibatan pelbagai pihak, persidangan ini dijangka menghasilkan kerjasama strategik yang dapat menyumbang secara langsung kepada pelaksanaan dasar dan hala tuju sekuriti makanan Malaysia.
